This book introduces you to HTML and CSS as you follow along with the author, step-by-step, to build a fully functional web site from the ground up. However, unlike countless other "learn web design" books, this title concentrates on modern, best-practice techniques from the very beginning, which means you'll get it right the first time. The web sites you'll build will: Look good on a PC, Mac or Linux computer Render correctly whether your visitors are using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, or Safari Use web standards so your sites will be fast loading and easy to maintain Be accessible to disabled users who use screenreaders to browse the Web By the end of the book, you'll be equipped with enough knowledge to set out on your first projects as a professional web developer, or you can simply use the knowledge you've gained to create attractive, functional, usable and accessible sites for personal use.

Beginners GuideSep 16, 2009 Useful lessons in XHTML for better quality web pages. But very basic HTML. If you are a somewhat knowledgeable HTML user, would probably be better off with more advanced book.
The review and specialized technique was appreciated by me though. This book will be useful on days that my mind is slacking.

Build your own WebsiteSep 12, 2009 I found this book after searching for anything new to help me with CSS and web site design. The book is easy to follow and so far I have been able to create a web site using all HTML code. I have built 2 web sites on my own using Frontpage. So I had some experience how web site design works. I completely recommend this book to learn the basics and create your own site with using HTML code entirely to build your site. I wish all books were this easy to use and follow, the technical nature is still here but the book is well designed and presentation is easy to follow. The web site and information he directs the reader to use is available and easy to find. I am still working on making CSS files and having them available for my existing site to use. I feel confident that when I get time to work on these files this book will help me with minimal difficulty. As usual the work you put into the process is equal to what you get out of it. I am grateful to this book. My creatvity flows with the knowledge that I have what I need to create a great final project. Jnetti.

Build your own Web Site The Right Way using HTML & CSSSep 09, 2009 I am very excited about building my own web sites now! I was able to follow this book and produce my "project" web site that looks exactly like the screen shots in the book and actually functions properly. The authors "peculiarly British turns of phrases" are amusing, and he directed me to many informative and educational sites (Sitepoint owned as well as others).

Good book to walk you thru your first full websiteAug 22, 2009 I used this book to give me the "bigger picture" with respect to building multi-page HTML/CSS websites. This book was successful in teaching me that bigger picture - how to set up the skeleton of a site in multiple files, how to manage updates quickly, and how to work through some basic styling issues. I knew HTML and CSS on a beginner level going into it, but I learned by following this book step by step how to create my own site from scratch (http://blueseriously.com).
This book, however, is not an end-all be-all reference on HTML or CSS. Like I said, it will help you through your first site, but only by going off and building others on your own will you truly understand HTML and CSS. A book can't give you the experience of designing 10 or 100 websites...
Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSSAug 07, 2009 I have been interested in learning web design skills for a long time. I found Ian Lloyd's book in my public
library and slowly read through the book, practicing each lesson. I liked the book so much, I purchased it. This book is well-organized, clear, and precise. This is a book for people who want to know the real rules, not the short cuts and bad habits that (apparently) so many designers adopt. It's an excellent book for beginners who are willing to take the time to learn. I feel very lucky to have found this book first! I've looked at other introductory books on CSS and HTML after learning from Lloyd's book and have not found anything as good.
